GPS Live Tracking in greytHR allows employees working in the field to mark attendance and record their movement, client visits, and travel between sign in and sign out. This feature ensures accurate attendance capture, clear timelines, and better transparency for both employees and managers.
GPS tracking works automatically once it is enabled in the attendance scheme and starts when you, as an employee, sign in, without requiring any manual tracking actions beyond attendance activities.
When you sign in from the greytHR mobile app to mark attendance, GPS Live Tracking is already active based on the selected attendance scheme.
Open the greytHR mobile app and tap Sign In.
When prompted, allow location permission. Location access is mandatory for GPS Live Tracking.
After permission is granted, the app captures:
Latitude
Longitude
Location accuracy (This can vary based on GPS signal and location.)
The Sign In button remains disabled until a valid location and acceptable accuracy are captured.
Once valid GPS data is available, tap Sign In to confirm attendance.
After a successful sign-in:
You are automatically redirected to the home page.
A message indicates that GPS Tracking is ON.
A View My Tracking call-to-action (CTA) is displayed.
You can access your tracking timelines in the following ways from your greytHR Mobile app.
Tap View My Tracking on the home screen. (This is visible only after you sign in for the day and hides once you sign out) or
Tap Explore > Attendance > My Tracking
Note:
My Tracking under Attendance is always available in the mobile app and can be accessed at any time.
View My Tracking on the home screen is visible only during the active workday—from sign-in until sign-out.
When you tap View My Tracking, you are taken to the My Tracking Details screen. This section displays a map view, a graphical view of your movement for the day, and Timeline Summary shows key metrics for the selected day, including:
Total distance travelled
Total travel time
Number of client visits completed
Timeline entries are displayed in chronological order, starting from Sign In, followed by Check-Ins, Travel during the day, Check-Outs, and finally Sign Out.
The Check-In and Check-Out tab allows field employees to record their visit to client locations during working hours. This ensures accurate tracking of client meetings, visit duration, and travel timelines between visits.
Client visits can be recorded only after the employee has signed in for the day and GPS Live Tracking is active.
Tap Check In when you reach a client location.
A pop-up appears displaying the detected address.
Add optional remarks, if required.
Confirm the check-in.
Once confirmed, the check-in entry is recorded in the tracking timeline.
Tap Check Out after completing work at the client location.
The check-out is recorded and added to the timeline.
This flow can be repeated for multiple client visits during the day.
You can view tracking timelines for the current or previous dates:
From the home page, if signed in for the day, or
From Explore > Attendance > My Tracking
From the calendar on the My Tracking screen, select a date. Once selected, the complete timeline and summary for that day are displayed.
If the GPS signal is lost due to poor network coverage or if location services are manually turned off during the day, the event is recorded in the tracking timeline. This ensures transparency in attendance and movement records.
At the end of the workday:
Open the greytHR mobile app and tap Sign Out.
The app records the final location and ends the tracking timeline for the day.
After sign-out, the GPS tracking stops for the day, and the View My Tracking option is no longer visible on the homepage.
You can view only your own GPS tracking data.
Tracking information is available to managers based on configured access rights.
GPS tracking is enabled only after the employee provides explicit consent through app location permissions.
Tracking is strictly limited to working hours and is active only between sign-in and sign-out.Â
All data is securely stored within greytHR.
GPS tracking depends on device GPS and network availability, so small location differences may occur.
GPS accuracy may reduce in lifts, basements, underground parking, or areas with weak network.
Location permission must stay enabled while signed in.
Battery saver or power-saving modes may affect GPS tracking.
Use one device only. Switching or sharing devices can affect tracking accuracy.
Minor variations in distance or travel time are normal in GPS-based tracking.
GPS Live Tracking is a feature in greytHR that allows organizations to track field employees’ attendance and movement in real time using GPS. It helps ensure accurate attendance, improve accountability, and support compliance.
GPS Live Tracking helps you mark attendance accurately while working in the field. It clearly records your sign-in, travel, client visits, and sign-out, reducing the need for manual reporting. It also provides transparency by showing your complete workday timeline, which can help avoid misunderstandings during attendance review or travel-related discussions.
When an employee signs in from the greytHR mobile app, GPS Live Tracking starts automatically based on their attendance scheme. They must allow location permission to complete sign-in.
The Sign In button remains disabled until the app captures a valid location with acceptable accuracy. This depends on GPS signal strength and network availability.
During sign-in, the app captures your latitude, longitude, and location accuracy. Location accuracy may vary based on GPS signal and surroundings.
After a successful sign-in, a message shows that GPS Tracking is ON, and the View My Tracking option appears on the home screen.
Employees can access My Tracking in two ways:
Tap View My Tracking on the home screen (visible only between sign-in and sign-out), or
Go to Explore > Attendance > My Tracking (available at any time
My Tracking shows:
Map view of your movement
Total distance travelled
Total travel time
Number of client visits
A timeline of sign-in, check-ins, travel, check-outs, and sign-out
Employees can tap Check In when you reach a client location and Check Out when you leave. Each action is recorded in your daily tracking timeline. This can be repeated for multiple client visits.
Yes. Open My Tracking, use the calendar option, and select a past date to view the complete timeline and summary for that day.
Employees must provide the location permission always or all the time. Selecting 'Allow Only While Using the App' will not support tracking when the app is running in the background. If you select this option, tracking will stop whenever the greytHR app is not in the foreground.
If the GPS signal is lost due to poor network coverage or if location services are manually turned off during the day, the event is recorded in the tracking timeline.
No. GPS tracking starts only after the employee signs in and allows location permission on the greytHR mobile app.
No. GPS tracking is active only between sign-in and sign-out.
Yes. Employees can view only your own tracking details under My Tracking in the mobile app.
Check that:
Location permission is enabled for the greytHR app
GPS and mobile data are turned on
Battery saver or power-saving mode is disabled
GPS tracking may use additional battery. Keeping battery optimization disabled for the greytHR app helps improve tracking accuracy.
No. GPS tracking data is captured automatically and cannot be edited manually.
Small variations in distance are normal and depend on GPS signal strength, network conditions, and movement speed. The system captures location at adaptive intervals, which means minor deviations from the actual route are expected.
GPS tracking starts automatically when you sign in for the day. It continues throughout the day while you are signed in and stops when you sign out at the end of the day. After sign-out, View My Tracking is no longer visible on the home screen.
Employees can view your own daily tracking details, including the map view of movement, travel time, distance covered, number of client visits, and a chronological timeline of sign-in, check-ins, travel, check-outs, and sign-out.
If GPS signal is lost or location permission is turned off during the day, the event is recorded in the tracking timeline as GPS lost. Attendance actions may be restricted until location access is restored.
Yes. Location permission is mandatory to mark attendance using GPS Live Tracking.
If the location permission is denied, the Sign In button will be disabled. Go to the device Settings, find the greytHR app under App Permissions, and enable location access. Return to the app — Sign In will be re-enabled automatically once valid location data is captured.
Yes. Remarks can be added during sign-in and client check-ins.
No. Tracking details are visible only for days when you have signed in.
Yes. Use the calendar option in My Tracking to view timelines for previous dates.
GPS signal loss can occur due to poor network coverage, being in a basement or indoor area with weak signals, battery saver mode restricting background processes, or force-closing the app. Ensure mobile data is active, battery optimization is disabled for greytHR, and the app is running in the background.
VPN may affect the internet connectivity but does not directly impact GPS location accuracy. GPS is captured via your device's hardware, not the internet connection.
If Device Detection is enabled by the admin, the greytHR app will be restricted to one device. This ensures tracking is recorded on only one device. Contact your HR admin if you face issues signing in from a second device.
No. GPS Live Tracking is a mobile-only feature. If you sign in via the web portal on a laptop, location tracking will not be recorded. Your admin may restrict web sign-in for employees on a GPS Live Tracking attendance scheme.
If GPS or internet is lost for under 5 minutes, the system stores the last known location and records it as travel — the employee will not see a GPS Lost status for short interruptions. If the loss extends beyond 5 minutes, it is recorded as 'GPS Lost' in your timeline. Tracking resumes automatically once connectivity is restored.
If GPS signal is lost due to being in a low-signal area such as a basement, the system records that period as GPS Lost. This does not mean your attendance is marked absent — it simply flags a gap in the timeline. Your manager can see the GPS Lost duration and follow up if needed.
No. greytHR has built-in anti-spoofing logic. If GPS spoofing is detected on your device, you will be blocked from signing in entirely. Spoofed location data cannot be submitted to the system.
GPS accuracy depends on your device's GPS module and your physical location. In most cases, accuracy is within 16 metres — approximately 96% accurate. At speeds above 80 km/h, accuracy may reduce slightly but remains above industry benchmarks.
If the employee signs out without checking out from a client location, the system automatically performs a check-out at the time of sign-out. This is recorded in your timeline as a system-generated check-out.
No. There is no pause option in the current version. Tracking runs continuously between Sign-In and Sign-Out. If location services are turned off manually, the system records that period as GPS Lost.
The GPS tracking data is available for the last 90 days. Data older than 90 days is not accessible within the system.
Employees can view only their own tracking data. The respective manager can view tracking data for employees reporting to them. HR admins have organisation-wide oversight access. All access is role-based and configured by your admin.
Yes. GPS tracking starts only after the employee Sign In and explicitly allow location permission on your device. No tracking occurs without your consent.
