Set strategic goals for your team members

Updated in March-2024Β |Β Subscribe to watch greytHR how-to video

The Performance Management System (PMS) serves as a strategic tool that boosts employee performance to align with organizational objectives. PMS integrates individual employee goals with the company's strategy. It promotes development through precise goal setting, evaluations, feedback, and rewards, thus enhancing overall organizational success.

Goals are essential in PMS, acting as a guide for employees to align their efforts with company goals. These goals serve as benchmarks for evaluating performance, providing continuous feedback, conducting performance appraisals, and highlighting opportunities for training and development.

The Goals page in the greytHR ESS portal allows you as managers to set clear, measurable goals. Goals foster engagement, enhance performance, and promote growth for employees and the organization. The page displays your goals as well as your team’s goals under the My Goals and Team Goals tabs.Β

To view the Goals page, click Performance > Goals.

Create goals for your team members

Goals are specific targets that employees aim to achieve within a set timeframe. They serve as benchmarks for measuring progress and success.

To create goals for your team members, perform the following actions:

  1. On the Goals page, under the Team Goals tab, from the dropdown list, select a team member for whom you want to create a goal.

  2. From the dropdown list available on the left side of the page, select the goal cycle as per your requirements.

  3. Click Create Goal. The page allows you to create goals and milestones for the selected team member.
Note: Milestones are small, achievable tasks for each goal. The progress of the goal is achieved by tracking the progress of the milestones.

  4. Under the Goals and Milestones column, double-click the Enter goal here text box to type the goal.

  5. Under the Weightage column, enter the required weightage/importance you want to assign the goal.
Note: The bottom of the page displays the Total Goals Weightage as 100. You must ensure to classify your goals to match the weightage equivalent to 100.Β

  6. Double-click the Enter milestone here text box to enter a milestone to achieve the goal.

  7. Under the Weightage column, enter the required weightage you want to give to the milestone. You can enter multiple milestones based on the goals.
Note: You must give a weightage to each milestone, ensuring that their total equals 100, based on the importance of each milestone.Β

Note:Β

  1. As a manager, you can view the goals of your direct and indirect team members.

  2. Team members/Employees cannot create goals for themselves.

  3. You and your team members can also:

  4. View the percentage of progress and the status of each Goal under the Progress and Status columns.

  5. Update the status of each milestone from the Goals page by clicking the β†’ available on the required goal and then dragging the status bar of the required milestone.

  6. Copy the goal/milestone by clicking the Link icon available next to each Goal/Milestone.

  7. Add comments under the Comments section and view a detailed description of the goal/milestone activities under the Activity Log section.
